GHB is a naturally occurring chemical produced within the central nervous system of the human body. Historically this drug was used in the medical field as a general aesthetic, and was used to treat other disorders. Today the drug is commonly recognized as an intoxicant and date rape drug, as it has made headlines on more than one occasion.
The Synthesis of the drug first occurred in 1874 by a man named Alexander Zaytsev, and it was not until the 1960’s that this drug was researched and used on humans by Dr. Henri Labonti. In particular this drug was used across parts of Europe as a sleeping agent and during childbirth. Unfortunately, the problems of dependency and the ongoing abuse of the drug, made it become more regulated in the medical field.
GHB can be recognized as liquid ecstasy, liquid X, and liquid G. When a person consumes a small amount they will experience euphoria and intoxication. When a large amount is taken, the following will occur:

When used recreationally, typically the drug will look like a white crystalline powder, and it will have a salty taste, and will be odourless and colourless. This had made this drug popular amongst the club and rave scene. Because of its odourless and colourless features it has been commonly used as a date rape drug. This will occur when the individual is a vulnerable state – intoxicated due to alcohol, and the GHB is mixed in their drink.

GHB is physically and psychologically addictive when used on a regular basis, and has some of the most longest withdrawals then any other drug. It will cause the following withdrawal symptoms:
