Effects of alcoholism on family
Most of the time members of the family of an alcoholic suffer in silence.
Alcoholism can cause serious health problems such as pregnancy difficulty in anticipating mothers and it may also cause several psychological concerns. Members of the family may continue to suffer the consequences of past alcoholism even after the alcoholic has overcome the harmful effects of it. Sometimes children of an alcoholic may model the behaviour demonstrated by an alcoholic parent. The damage done to a family can be reversed by the love and patience of each member to the misguided behaviour of an alcoholic.

* Low esteem – In many cases, alcoholism direct a person to most of the time prioritize his own needs over the needs of his family members. This may result in family members being left devalued. Many children with alcoholic parents’ shows signs of negative self esteem, although children are extroverted in nature. Alcoholism may sometimes affect the family members in a different way by attempting to mask the feelings of insufficiency by trying hard to be recognized by others.
* Distrustfulness – in a family with an alcoholic member, distrustfulness is used as a defensive tool. Uncertain how to tell their family problems to others, family member often avoid making new acquaintances. Sometimes family members may feel deceived by the alcoholic person they are living with. Teens and children are most of the time sceptical of outsiders if the parent has been hooked to alcoholism. Once your child feels that he may not be able to have trust within the family, children of an alcoholic may feel hesitant about trusting others.
* Impulsiveness – an impulsive behaviour is often produced in sufferers of alcoholism. Most of the members of the family of an alcoholic have the tendency to mirror such behaviour. In order to cover up his guilt such as in purchasing his wine he will allow his children to get whatever they want in the grocery. Thus, reward the impulsive behaviour of the children in buying the things that they want.
* Imitation – most of the time non-alcoholic members of the family may imitate the behaviour of an alcoholic member. Children may think that it is healthy to drink liquor to handle stress, since they have seen it many times with their parents or other family members. Or sometimes may imitate the compulsive behaviour patterns as they grow.
