This story is about my boyfriend, he became addicted to cocaine.

Well technically, he’s my fiancé, but I really don’t think we’ll get married because of his addiction. We’ve been together for the past three odd years and we have a baby who is two years old, his name is Tim and he looks exactly like his father. When we first met, I had no clue that he was involved with drugs. He didn’t tell me anything until we became close. He was very desperate about cocaine and he used a lot over the years

When someone discovers that a loved one is addicted to meth, there are many questions and reflections that go through their mind.

They may wonder how they can make this situation work and learn to tolerate the drug use. Unfortunately, although that thought is tempting, it is also unrealistic. Even though, like some alcoholics, some meth users can function (i.e. hold down a job) for a time, their behavior is still going to change. That change often includes violence or cheating on their spouse. The only way to live with a meth addict is to do what you can to make them a recovering meth addict.

Living with, or loving an addict can take its toll on the non-addiction person. Many times, the emotional and physical pressure gets to be too much and the decision is made to break up with the addict. If this happens, do not let guilt stop you. Do not take on the burden of their addiction and weigh that into your decision. You need to be committed to following through and not falter.

Leaving an abusive drug addict is the same as leaving any other abusive relationship. You are in physical danger and if there are children in the home, they are too. Abuse often escalates into fatalities and you need to think first of immediate physical safety and go from there.
