Why Alcohol Addiction is Bad

Is quite simply, because it can kill you.

It can also kill innocent bystanders.  Are you sitting there thinking those are overly dramatic statements? Then you have not had a loved one taken from you thanks to alcohol addiction.  Whether you are the one with the addiction, a loved one, or someone who had an innocent family member taken, you know why and how alcohol addiction is bad.

* First off, alcohol addiction is not a disease and is very curable. Even though, a person can be genetically prone to alcoholism, and can become addicted even without a genetic reason.  Alcohol can permanent damage organs and cause lifelong physical problems for the addict.  Some of the statistics of death from cancer are caused indirectly by alcohol.  Cirrhosis of the liver, pancreatic cancer, problems with kidneys, blood pressure; all can stem from alcohol addiction and go on to be mortal statistics.

Children can often be victims of domestic violence.

* Alcohol addiction is found to be a leading cause of domestic violence. Officers arriving on a scene, often find that an aggressor can have a history of alcohol use and is quite probably this person is highly intoxicated at the time that the law enforcement arrives.  The spouse or partner and children can often be found to be victims of domestic violence when the one causing the pain is addicted to alcohol.

Innocent children are taken in two separate headlines in car accidents where the woman carting the children is on drugs and/or alcohol.  This is something that happens every day.

* Getting behind the wheel as a drunk driver is a choice you cannot take back.

There are no do-over’s.  This is the most horrific statistic (in this writer’s opinion) of alcohol addiction.  When you drink and drive, you are taking the choice away from other drivers on the highway, or children simply being transported by adults from one place to another.

No one wakes up and says to himself I think I will drive drunk this evening and certainly no one says I think I will go down the highway at exactly the same time as a drunk driver tonight.  Children do not jump in the back of a vehicle, buckle up and wonder if they will make it to their destination; unless they are unfortunate enough to live with an alcoholic who has driven drunk more than once.

* Why is alcohol addiction bad?

Because it can take away a life; not only through long-term use and health problems but in an instance on a street or highway.  It is bad because the life that is lost that day may not just be yours but an innocent victim as well. * * * Make the smarter choice and seek help today! * * *
