Chances are, you either were one of them, or know one of them. Many people remember Heroin from back in the day (the 70’s and 80’s) when it was quite popular too. It (the heroin addiction) didn’t turn out well for people then and it won’t now.
* One of the first signs of a heroin addict is increasingly poor behavior or performance (such as at a job or school). The heroin addict may also begin showing up late, if they show up at all, even if it was a job or experience that they once loved.
* Personal hygiene may begin to suffer. The heroin addict does not take as much interest in grooming or personal hygiene as they once did. They also tend to start moving away from the family and friends. Even if it is in the same house; they will start to stay secluded in their rooms and not associate much with anyone. They also may start becoming clumsy or reckless.
Other random symptoms of heroin use include:
- A runny nose or constantly “sniffing”
- Needle marks on the arms or legs
- Slurred speech
- Becomes hostile
- Possesses drug paraphernalia and/or keeps a drug kit by their bed
- Lack of goals or motivation
* Be very aware if the person’s nose or fingertips become blue, or if they have a dry mouth and their breathing are very shallow. The pupils will appear very small and the blood pressure will drop. Muscle spasms and disorientation are other signs of heroin overdose.
For a heroin addict, life seems to slow down and you can notice an almost “slow motion” effect to their actions. They also alternate between being very sleepy and very alert. Anytime a person does heroin it is dangerous. Since all drug users like to push the envelope, it is so very easy for a heroin addict to overdose. It happens much too often as it is. They just take a little bit more than usual so they can feel that “rush” they are looking for.
It takes a cool combination of being loving and tough at the same time. If Intervention is available in your area, take advantage of it and look for a facility that offers a holistic approach to healing.
