Signs of a cocaine addict 2

When someone first starts using cocaine…

The initial physical reactions are increased energy, dilated pupils, increased blood pressure and heart rate.

In the beginning it may be somewhat difficult to tell that there is cocaine use going on, but the increased energy (including fast talking) and dilated pupils are normally the most clear first sign and also, the mood is generally favorable too.

They feel good and are usually in a fantastic mood and full of ambition.

Once someone is addicted, they can become extremely irritable!

+ Sometimes the moods change very quickly. Long term use of cocaine can cause severe damage to the heart and of course, the brain. Once someone is addicted, if they have not had their Fix they will be extremely irritable and some can get violent during these times. Once they have had their fix of cocaine, their mood and energy improves once again. Some long term users of cocaine have experienced auditory hallucinations. There also may be severe weight loss after being addicted to cocaine for a while. Cocaine is not only a stimulant but it suppresses the appetite as well, so weight loss is common.

+ Cocaine addicts are also more susceptible to illnesses. Nausea, vomiting and nosebleeds are also common among cocaine addicts. Body tremors may also be present, or hyperactivity. The more familiar you are with someone’s normal pallor, moods and activity level, the easier it is to tell the signs of a cocaine addict. Once someone is severely addicted, they will usually keep a drug kit near their bed so they can have it first thing in the morning. It will contain not only the drugs but any paraphernalia they need to administer the cocaine.

+ Once a person has become addicted to cocaine, their entire personality can change. They are no longer the person they once were. They begin to miss work or school and do not follow through on commitments. They are often irritable and unpredictable. If a spouse becomes an addict, money goes missing with no explanations.  Also, more and more money starts to go missing which is a clue to the spouse that something is wrong.

* No two people are the same and no two cocaine addicts are the same.

The above described symptoms, however, are quite common in many cocaine addicts. The earlier the signs are picked up on, the earlier the addict can get the help they need.
