Why Drugs Are Harmful

Regardless of the drug, from a simple headache tablet to a syringe full of Heroin, they all produce chemical reactions in the human body.

Naturally the stronger the drug the more the reaction, although some people react negatively to even simple drugs or medications. Drugs have both a short term and long term affects.

Street drugs or even prescription drugs that are misused can cause irreparable damage to a person’s body, mind and spirit. The short term affect varies but normally includes impairment of judgment. Combine this with even simple tasks such as driving and it can have disastrous consequences. Many people have died as a result of using drugs and driving. Even worse is that innocent people get killed as well. Another short term affect can be anger and temper flares.

Long term affects are usually irreversible. Brain cells that have been lost due to drug use can never be replaced. Not only that but the body and vital organs can suffer damage as well. Any time a drug enters the body, it goes through the entire system either through the blood or absorption through the stomach and then into the blood stream. The heart, liver and stomach are usually the organs that are hardest hit, besides the brain.
