Should I Date a Drug Addict?
When one speaks of a drug addict they can mean one of two things:
* A practicing drug addict or a recovered drug addict. * It certainly isn’t that drug addicts are bad people, per se, but they are embroiled in a lot of drama as well as being in the throws of a serious addiction. This probably isn’t the time for anyone to be dating them.
Drug addicts can be unpredictable and even someone who is very gentle when they are not high can get violent when they are on their drug of choice. Anyone who would become intimately involved with them would be drawn into the drama very quickly. When speaking of a practicing addict, it wouldn’t be wise for anyone to start dating them.
There are those who have previously been drug addicts but are now clean. They may be in any one of many various stages of recovery. The important thing is; they are in recovery. The risks are considerably less dating someone who has given up a drug addiction but of course, there is always the possibility that they can go back to their addiction.
Being a friend is much wiser at this point than trying to date.
* Drugs change people so drastically.
They don’t only change the person who becomes addicted but anyone who is involved in that person’s life. Family members know the heartache all too well. Anyone who would begin dating a drug addict would be setting themselves up for pain and heartache. It is best to keep a distance with any drug addict until they have gone through rehabilitation.
Drug addiction is a world wide problem but unfortunately, the people who care about the addict suffer as well. Being a friend is much wiser at this point than trying to date. Any addict needs friends who will try to get them into rehab.
* The more friends the addict has trying to get them into rehab, the better.
Dating someone is a big emotional investment and it is one that a drug addict cannot afford. It also is very unfair to the person dating the drug addict. Leave the dating for a time when the addict is putting the drugs behind him or her and can emotionally commit to a relationship.
