Short-Term Effects of Drug Addiction

Short term effects of drug addiction are not as easy ascertained as long term effects.

Except for the initial high or good feeling that the drug of choice gives a person, Drugs can affect the blood pressure and the brain temporarily and can cause stumbling and incoherency such as alcohol but, over all the likelihood of short term effects are outweighed by the fact that an addiction will probably lead to some type of permanent damage, cancer or death.

Another thing that a person can encounter in the short term is that while on the temporary high”, the person can become hyperactive and stimulated.  He or she, while losing coordination skills, may also tend to slur words, be unable to walk a straight line and lose common sense abilities and decision making skills.  If you are sober, you must know not to get behind the wheel of a vehicle  while you are drunk, right?  Yet it happens every day because people think “oh I can drive” and then head themselves or innocent bystanders to an accident causing injury or death.

You must know not to get behind the wheel of a vehicle while you are drunk.

A person can have problems with breathing shortly after taking a drug.  As it hits the bloodstream, it can cause a person’s heart rate to go off kilter and make a person’s breathing irregular.  This can lead to the heart literally stopping, blood pressure escalating and other circulatory problems and at that point, the person must go to the ER right away.

The truth is that short term effects are practically nil except for the ones mentioned.

The danger is that once you begin taking or consuming substances, you can quite easily become addicted.  Short term effects can lead to long term disaster such as drinking and driving can and often does.  Short term effects of one night of engaging in illicit drugs can affect a person for a lifetime, as he or she gets into a situation that can cause life altering consequences, whether it be unprotected sex leading to an STD or pregnancy, drinking and driving, taking heroin or cocaine one time and finding your body sets off an alarm that leads to a medical visit to the ER.

The only short term effect that is really worth it when it comes to drug addiction is a simple little two letter word: NO.  You will then be able to remember the party, remember the night, drive safely home, wake up with no regrets and enjoy a future that is promising.

Do it for yourself, say no and it will be the best short term effect of the evening you could ever have.
