In some cases, the person turned to drugs just to escape from the emotional turmoil of their personal lives. Ray Charles’ drug addiction may be one such case, and it is a story that needs to be told for all who want to give up such a dangerous habit.
* Heroin is one of the most dangerous drugs around, and said by many to be the most addictive. But medically, the main purpose of heroin is to act as a painkiller for physical-trauma sufferers and cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy treatments. However, its addictive properties have made it jump from hospital rooms and into the houses of troubled people. Ray Charles was one of them, and his drug addiction started when he was sixteen.
Ray Charles was born into a very poor family, and his father left his mother when he was very small. When he was seven years old, he saw his brother drown right in front of him; a sight forever in his head for not long after, he lost his eyesight to glaucoma. His mother joined him in a school specially meant for blind and deaf kids. In this school where his mother sent him to study, he learned how to read and write music in the Braille language. He worked really hard to attain his goal to become a great and successful musician.
The emotional upheaval and his family’s problems could very well be the reasons for Ray Charles’ drug addiction. But he persevered. He signed a contract with Swingtime Records at the age of seventeen, and he never looked back. He is the first black man to write a country song and record it.
Everyone faces challenges in life, and he was certainly not an exception to that. His drug addiction is known to the public; he was arrested three times for drug possession. He suffered and battled with the addiction for many years.
He finally took the first step to get himself clean. He went to a drug rehabilitation center and took drug recovery treatments until he overcame his addiction.
This is a very inspirational story!
