How to Prevent Drug Addiction

The only definitive way to prevent drug addiction is not to take something to begin with.

If you are at a party and someone offers you a joint or a fix, say NO.  Do not start something that can only lead to pain and misery because in the long run, drugs do not bring happiness, they only bring problems like you have never experienced before.

However, there are times when a person can unwittingly find themselves in a situation that could lead to drug addiction.  If someone is taking a prescription medication for an injury or an ailment, it is important to have a Doctor monitor both the progress and the medication.  A lot of times people can get addicted to a prescription without intending to because of the mixed messages going back and forth with the brain.  Be diligent when taking the medication and keep your Doctor informed.  Do not take more than what the instructions given tell you; if you begin taking too many, see your Doctor immediately because you are falling victim to drug addiction.

Just say NO

Just say NO

Alcohol is considered an appropriate means of socializing and it is important to know how to do so in a responsible fashion.  Over-imbibing is not a good thing and the more a person consumes, the less aware he is of his surroundings and how he is behaving.  It is always better to stop at one or two drinks when in a social setting so as not to go overboard.  However, if alcoholism is a problem in your family, chances are you could be genetically predisposed to become addicted and it is wiser to seek an alternative such as a soft drink or bottled water.

* Taking responsible steps now, can prevent heartbreak later on.

Often a person will try pot or white powder with the understanding that he will have “just one”.  Unfortunately, just one is all it takes.  Then the brain begs the body for another, and another, and well, you get the point, right?  Drug addiction begins with “just one” and then escalates to two, three and then to the point where a person is constantly needing “just one more”.

* How do you prevent drug addiction?

By not trying drugs to begin with.  It is the only way to definitely keep you away from getting hooked on them.  If you are taking prescriptions, keep yourself closely watched by a physician.  Other than that, just say no.  It is the only way.
