How to Beat Drug Addiction

Beating drug addiction does not have a simple and easy solution.

Most people who have been addicts have decided to quit either because they have hit rock bottom or because of the encouragement of their loved ones.

* The first step, arguably, is deciding that help is needed. The addict may not want to be off the drug but realizes that they need help with their life. Can drug addiction be beaten alone, without rehabilitation? Yes, but it does not happen very often. Most of those who try to beat the drug by themselves do not succeed.

Rehabilitation takes time, effort and eventually desire. Set yourself FREE!

* The next step in beating a drug addiction is ridding the body of the drug. This is done by Detoxification. Full detoxification can take 7 days and rarely, longer. No progress can be made until the drug is out of the person’s system. After Detox, therapy and finding out the triggers of the drug use will help prepare the person for realizing why they do drugs. Learning new coping skills and life skills are also often needed. The idea is to arm the addicted person with everything they need to succeed drug free. Optimally, this is all done during a long term program.

* Beating drug addiction basically takes the desire to make it work. That usually comes at some point in therapy. Although there may be a basic desire to quit before rehab, the full realization of what that means comes after detoxification. Beating addiction doesn’t always happen the first time it is tried, or even the second. Some rehabs have better success rates than others but it is not uncommon for someone to have to repeat Detox and rehabilitation.

There are many things that contribute to beating drug addiction.

People seem to desire easy answers and easy solutions but sometimes, there just aren’t any. Rehabilitation takes time, effort and eventually desire. Speaking with a rehab counselor can help clear up a lot of questions. Find out what their success rate is and ask what their program is. Not all rehab centers are the same.

  6. With an alcohol detoxification program, you may need to go through some psychological counseling. Counsceling should help you discover the real causes that drove you to drink in the first place. You can then take measures and find ways to target the real causes. Family counseling may also be recommended in order to address the concerns that your family may have with your alcoholism. You would also be requiring their support so that you do not return to this addiction in the future.
