Alcohol Help

There is an abundance of help out there for alcoholics and their loved ones.

Many people are afraid to reach out for help because they feel it means they are weak, but just the opposite is true.

People who reach out for help have a lot of courage. Others neglect getting help because they think it will reflect badly on their family.

Alcoholism does not discriminate. It affects every type of family from every socio-economic status.

  • A Friend: If you stop and think about it, there has probably been one or more friends who have expressed concern about you and your drinking. Go to them. Chances are they will do everything in their power to find you the right help and be grateful you asked them.
  • The Doctor: We have no greater health ally than our doctor. Some of us have a better relationship with the doctor than others but you have to admit, a doctor is going to have some of the best resources. At least ask him where to start.
  • A Therapist: If you are seeing a therapist, he or she may be another great resource. Confide in them, that is what they are there for.
  • The Phone Book: If worse comes to worse, pull out the phone book or go online and look up local treatment centers. Then call and find out what their beliefs are.

Once you are at a place that can offer you help, the first step will probably be Detox. There are methods of easing the symptoms of Detox and you can take advantage of them. Alcohol is not just a physical problem, however, it affects our minds and our spirits. To completely break free, all of those must be treated. It is called holistic treatment, and it has proven very successful.

The alcohol will change your mind if you wait too long. Take advantage of that split second of clear thinking and get help. All you have to lose is a life time of misery. The sooner you seek out help, the sooner you can start rebuilding your life and happiness.
